Event Expected to Generate more than $24 Million for Boston Tourism Industry

 AARP, one of the world's largest member organizations with over 38 million members, today announced it will bring its annual Life@50+ National Event & Expo to Boston, MA on September 6-8, 2007. This national event for AARP members, friends and their families will have something for everyone with three unforgettable days and nights of the very best exhibits, experts and entertainment at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in a relaxed atmosphere -- part class reunion, part home, travel, health and high-tech expo, part summer concert weekend and all fun.

"Life@50+ is all about celebrating life and recognizing that it just gets better," said Bill Novelli, AARP CEO. "This is a one-of-a-kind event that is both an educational and fun environment for our members and brings top-notch entertainment, notable speakers, and interactive exhibits straight to them."

More than 25,000 AARP members and their friends from all 50 states and territories and 10 countries will flock to historic Boston to participate in this unique expo and entertainment weekend, one of the largest events to date in Boston's new convention center. In addition to top-notch entertainers Earth, Wind & Fire; Rod Stewart; Lily Tomlin; and Tony Bennett, they will also experience extensive exhibits; lifestyle, education and feature sessions with politicians and entertainers; lectures and health and fitness classes. The attendees will also hear renowned actors Kirk and Michael Douglas; Golden Globe winner Hector Elizondo; funnyman Bob Newhart; red carpet duo Joan and Melissa Rivers; basketball MVP Bill Russell; best-selling author Gail Sheehy; fitness expert Richard Simmons; makeup mogul Bobbi Brown; poet Maya Angelou; comedian Whoopi Goldberg and chef Ming Tsai.

AARP is pleased to welcome the Platinum sponsors for the 2007 Life@50+ event: Anheuser-Busch, The Home Depot, UnitedHealth Group and Walgreens. Additionally, approximately 350 exhibits will feature new and future technologies, model homes and appliances, travel and leisure destinations, and a host of other products and services-all under one roof. Attendees will also experience a variety of interactive demonstrations such as taking a test drive at Toyota's "Highway to the Future Mobile Hybrid Experience Tour" and testing their gaming skills on the Nintendo Wii.

Life@50+ is expected to generate more than $24 million for the city of Boston, according to the Destination Marketing Association International's Direct Spending Calculation. Some key figures to note:

--25,000 = approximate number of expected attendees

-- 20,000+ = approximate number of hotel rooms expected to be sold over

         the course of the event.

      -- 12,500 = approximate number of people expected to attend from across

         the country, excluding Massachusetts

      -- 4,000 = approximate number of local tours expected to be sold to

         attendees

      -- 1,800 = approximate number of local AARP volunteers participating and

         working at Life@50+

      -- 67+ = approximate number of sessions included in general admission

         for all attendees

 Among the many activities planned for the event, attendees can wake up with a fitness class led by LL Cool J and end the day at a post-concert "Ultra Lounge" running until 2 a.m. In between they can get makeup advice from renowned beauty expert Bobbi Brown, take in a flick on the silver screen at the "Movies for Grown Ups" Film Festival, or receive financial advice from Jane Bryant Quinn.  Thursday, September 6th

AARP will open the festivities with a conversation between legendary actors Kirk and Michael Douglas. AARP University and Lifestyle sessions will take place throughout the day. One afternoon session will feature sports legend and MVP Bill Russell discussing community service. Evening entertainment will include a concert from Tony Bennett, AARP Studio 50+ Nightclubs, the After Dark Cabaret and the After Dark Ultra Lounge.

 Friday, September 7th

Lifestyle sessions from comedian Bob Newhart, Bobbi Brown, Gail Sheehy and more will cover topics including "Looking Your Best after 50" and "Pursuing the Passionate Life." Plus, take a trip down the red carpet with Joan and Melissa Rivers and end the day with entertainment from comedian Lily Tomlin and Earth, Wind & Fire.

Saturday, September 8th

Kick off the morning working out with Richard Simmons and then jump into lifestyle sessions including cooking with celebrity chef Ming Tsai. The day's activities will also feature the 2011 Council, a unique blend of political, academic, social and cultural expertise of diverse individuals

who have placed their imprint upon the American fabric and the baby boom generation. The evening will feature Hector Elizondo discussing "Mindfulness in the 21st Century" and a concert by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Rod Stewart.

   

All Three Days

Each day throughout Life@50+, attendees can participate in the AARP

University, the Life@50+ education track where members and guests take in

informational and interactive programs on the hottest AARP research,

issues, and programs related to people 50+. The faculty is composed of AARP

experts and leading authority speakers from profit, nonprofit and

government sectors. AARP University Workshops are the newest addition to

AARP University. They are small interactive discussions and specialized

hands-on programs focused on special subjects, issues, needs, trends, or

skills relevant to the professional or personal needs of people 50+. Also,

the exhibit hall will showcase health and fitness, new home and auto

design, personal finance, advocacy, travel, entertainment and community

service.

TICKETS

 Admission to Life@50+ for AARP members is $15, for non-members, $27.50. The entry fee includes access to Exhibitions, Exhibit Floor Performance Stage, Opening and Closing Shows, and Educational Sessions for all three days at one great price.
